Celebration of Champions
In 2009, the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Association teamed up with the National Reining Cow Horse Association to bring one of the most prestigious horse events in the nation to the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena. The John Deere and National Reined Cow Horse Association's Celebration of Championsfeat ures the Circle Y Derby and the World's Greatest Horseman competitions. These combined comprise the 10 day event and distribute close to $400,000.
The Celebration of Champions saturates local hotels and eateries with contestants from all over the world. Its motto: "One Horse, One Rider, One Very Impressive Title" precisely depicts the admiration and accolades that follow being crowned the World's Greatest Horseman. Horses and riders alike are judged on their skill and precision in herd work, rein work, cow work and steer stopping. The Celebration of Champions is the epitome of all horse events and its new home in San Angelo seems to be a perfect fit with generous support from the community.
The finals will be held Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 per day. The World's Greatest Horseman competition will be held Sunday, February 5. Tickets will be available at the door for $10. A weekend pass will be made available in advance for $12 dollars and will be good for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
