Steer Roping showcases the combination of horsemanship and roping talent. A PRCA event that requires a cowboy and horse partnership to be a successful team. This event is a common technique many cowboys and ranchers use when they are out in open pasture without the luxury of fences or pens. In competition the roper is only allowed to rope the steer around both horns. After the horse has caught up with the steer and the roper secures his head loop, the roper then tries to place the trip just below the hip of steer and execute the trip. The horse must now change speeds again and move left of the steer to begin the process of laying the animal on the ground. During this move, the roper must move to the left side of the horse so he will not be restrained by the rope holding the steer which aids in a quicker exit to the animal. The roper rides the left stirrup through the trip and then jumps off of his horse, races to the steer, and proceeds to tie three of the steer's legs together. The tie must stay for six seconds and the roper with the fastest time will be named the Cinch Roping Fiesta Steer Roping Champion!

This event is held at the Outdoor Roping Arena in conjunction with the Double Mugging. Tickets are available in advance at the stock show office, by phone at 325-653-7785, or at the gate for $15.00 each. Seating is general admission.
