CTBR Gilt Sale
In early 2009, the Livestock Department and members of the Texas Pork Producer's Association teamed up to bring the first ever production gilt show and sale associated with a major livestock show to the San Angelo Stock Show. After a long summer of planning, the first ever CTBR Texas Stars Gilt Show and Sale took place on the weekend of February 20-22, 2009. In 2010, over 400 gilts competed and the top 65 gilts were selected for the sale. The gilts averaged almost $1,192 per head! The following year, 2011, was even more successful. We had 957 entries, of which 521 exhibited, and 60 head were selected for the sale. The gilts averaged over $2,200 per head, and one crossbred gilt sold for $27,000 which was a world record setting sell. This year we have almost 100 more entries and hope to break even more records!
